Content ranges from simple ideas such as "Loan," "Money," and "Spending" to harder concepts that include "Demand and Supply," "Goods and Services," "Needs and Wants" to much more difficult abstractions such as "Exchange Rate," "Yearly Economic Growth," and "Zero Profit Condition." The alphabetic sequence mixes up any logic that might build understanding among the various concepts, instead forcing readers to take each topic individually. The simple four-line poems contribute little besides conforming to the series format. About the Author
Educator and literacy advocate Dr. Michael Shoulders has written several books for Sleeping Bear Press including the companion title, N is for Natural State: An Arkansas Alphabet and the recently released Say Daddy! When not traveling to schools and conferences, Mike lives in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Marty Kelley is the author of seven picture book books for young readers. Also a musician, he taught second grade before becoming a full time author-illustrator. Marty Kelley lives in New Hampshire with his wife, two children, three chickens, and one duck. This is his first novel.

Any young student who is interested in learning about money and economics will enjoy this book ...

Even at a very young age, young children become aware of the value of money and how it is used. That little lemonade stand is a great way to make money! "I is for income / Income is when you get money, / usually for work you do. / it can also be for selling things / or money that's given to you." Would you rather have some of that cooooold lemonade or "free range worms" at that stand? Eeeeeeew! Lemonade please! If you're really interested in income, you can read the info on the sidebar. You can even learn a bit about budgeting your money and investing.

Ever heard of the oligopoly? Perhaps not, but once you check out this book you'll at least be able to discuss it. "O is for Oligopoly. / Oligopolies exist when only / a few companies compete. / For instance, only four companies / make most of the cereals we eat." Cool, now which would be your favorite cereal? Would you prefer the Hyper Sweet Bacon Crunch or are the Super Sugar Bops your cup of tea? Make that cereal! If you're a bit more health-conscious you might just want that Branola. On a more serious note, "In an oligopoly, sales of a specific type of product are limited to only a few companies and the buyer must pay whatever those companies think is fair." You'll learn a lot of interesting money facts in this book!

This is a fun, fabulous alphabet book about money and economics for the youngest students. Debbie and Michael Shoulders certainly know how to interest young children in dollars and cents through their inimitable verse. Each verse is accompanied by a sidebar with a “real” historical vignette about each lettered item. For example, when we check out “H is for Housing Market," we learn the difference between a buyer's and seller's market. The artwork is vibrant, lively, served up with a touch of humor. Everything about this book is very kid-friendly and beckons them to open the pages and begin to read and learn.

nice book for ages 8+ whoever is interested in exploring

we like this book very much.
It was few days ago when I was driving and chatting about raw oil price and economy. My 8-year old boy asked me what economy is. I tried my best to explain using an example of farmer and eggs. But I am sure my explanation is not that great because it was a quick answer.
Today we were in that brick-and-mortar bookseller and we found this book. Wow! It was like a the right book for the right time. So we sit down and almost finished the whole book. My 8-year old said he learned a lot that he didn't know. To be honest, I also learned something that i don't know. As the other reviewer pointed out, I had never heard of "oligopoly" before I read this book.

A bit more decorations on wach page

For the last 2 months I have been enjoying every piece of page every morning in the office. This calendar is for a reminder for me of German what I studied long time ago, but I might want to have some a bit more decoration / illustration on each page. Every flip gives me different and new sentences, which are convenient for everyday conversation, but if this monotone and monochrome pages are the way to go with this calendar, they ought to re-assign the sentences in a location, and to make a memo column available so that one can put memo on what needs to be done on that day.

Strong sequel from Bernadette Peters

This charming book is perfect for an older brother or sister with a new baby in the house. My daughter loved Broadway Barks and Stella Is a Star, and this sequel does not disappoint. The story of adopted dog Charlie's adjustment to life in his new home, as well Stella's journey from begrudging acceptance of the newcomer to a blossoming friendship with Charlie, is heartwarming. Peters' story is well-written, and Murphy's beautiful collage artwork pairs perfectly with it.

Cute children's book!

I am a huge fan of Bernadette Peters and I absolutely loved the Broadway Barks book and cd. When my niece was younger she used to ask to listen to the cd a lot (and to be read the book).

I got an e-copy of Stella and Charlie Friends Forever. And I definitely think that these books are meant to be held, seen and touched. I don't think a black and white e-copy does the illustrations justice. So I will just review the story.

Stella and Charlie Friends Forever is about two dogs. Stella lives with a woman who looks exactly like Bernadette Peters. Stella's friend/dog Kramer is gone (dies?). So she needs a new friend. The book is about the singing dog and the dancing dog learning to become friends.

The story was cute. I know that the author is passionate about dogs, especially rescuing them. I thought that Stella and Charlie's doggie friendship was sweet. Although I didn't connect with this book the same way I did with Broadway Barks. It was still a charming book about rescuing dogs, jealousy and friendship.

I bet the hardcover book is much more impressive. It would be a cute book to read to kids, especially ones who love dogs.

Amazing book!

What a cute book with such a great storyline. It definitely encourages good interactions between siblings, while still being incredibly cute and fun for everyone! I love that portions go to Peters’ charity, Broadway Barks, in support of animal adoption.

What can all the characters in Mother Goose's world do when the reveler in chief runs out of revelry?

Trapani begins with the familiar first verse of the nursery rhyme, with the trio of fiddlers (cats in green tunics walking on two legs) trailing behind the unmistakably merry monarch. But once he settles into his throne, Cole can't stay awake for the King Cole Ball. Some of his problem is the sweetness of the fiddlers' serenade, but also his party preparations have simply worn him out. Mother Hubbard and her dog, the Three Little Pigs, Little Boy Blue (depicted with brown skin and curly black hair), and Bo Peep (drawn with Asian facial characteristics) each have a try, but to no avail. All the Mother Goose guests pace the floor in distress, until the Queen of Hearts waltzes in with a tray to save the day. The heavenly aroma of her heart-shaped tarts jolts the king from slumber, and the taste puts him back in a party mood. Trapani's paintings, in watercolor, Acryla gouache, ink, and colored pencil, are bright and delightful, but they are busy enough that large groups will find distinguishing them a challenge. The story itself is amusing but does not stand out in the Mother Goose crowd. Music and extended lyrics for "Old King Cole" fill the last page.

A favorite nursery rhyme from childhood extended with a fun story!

Iza Trapani has proved once again that she is a master at extending nursery rhymes. When I was younger, Old King Cole was one of my favorite nursery rhymes. I loved the rhythm and would sing the rhyme over and over again. Now, there is full story set to the nursery rhyme I loved so much as child.

Old King Cole stays up late planning a ball for many of our favorite nursery rhymes characters including Mother Hubbard, Little Bo Peep, Little Boy Blue, and more. But, when all the guest arrive and the Fiddlers Three begin to play their soft music Old King Cole falls asleep. There are many unsuccessful attempts to wake him until the Queen of Hearts saves the day with a special treat.

I enjoyed singing and SNORING my way through this book with my children. It is another book to add to my list of favorites by Iza Trapani!

This is a fantastic read for children and young adults alike

This is a fantastic read for children and young adults alike. Not only is it a great story, it's one that you create! It has you completely engrossed the moment you crack the binding. This book allows you to delve into your own colorful allyway that is your mind. You are the reader and also the main character. Full of suspense and magic. If you're having a hard time getting your little ones to read this summer, or next tuesday or when ever, pick this book up! Dishes will get done and laundry folded as your home settles into a rare, but beautiful, quiet. Your kids will be swimming in the grand tapestry that is their imagination. It'll be hard to pull them away!

Take a dive into this summer adventure.

This is a really great and fun book. Takes me back to when I was a kid reading choose your own adventure and watching the Goonies. A well written story about 3 young adventures and YOU are one of the adventures. The story keeps you engaged and anticipating what discovery is just around the corner, and the ability to choose which path you take makes it all that much more engaging.

it says things like “go on another path

I’d only give this book three stars because instead of just turning the pages, it says things like “go on another path, turn to page 27,” and then you have to start reading where you left off. It was like puzzle pieces. I felt frustrated because I didn’t like doing that. I would rather just read the book without being interrupted like that. I also don’t like it because Scooby Doo books are usually pretty scary and I don’t like that. I thought this book was kind of creepy. It’s hard to say what my favorite part of the book was, because there were so many little stories in it, but I liked the beginning the most. In this book, the Mystery Machine breaks down, and something flew above them and crashed into the corn field. I think someone who likes flipping through the pages of a book, and someone who likes scary stories would like this book.

I forgot to review this when it came out, but The Secret of the Flying Saucer is a great Scooby story! It starts in a cornfield but you can get beamed up into a UFO.

There are several different solutions, including real aliens. Most of Laurie S. Sutton's Scooby Books have weird stuff, like real monsters (in all Scooby besides some of the movies, the monsters aren't real), or armed guards (nobody is supposed to have weapons in Scooby-Doo), and even knowing the monsters are fake and seeing who did it early on (no longer a mystery).

Overall, I'd recommend to Scooby fans and collectors, but if you want to get the best Scooby You Choose stories, try Cheese Thief, Zombie Farm, and Spooky Street.
