5yo still liked it even though it wasn't what we expected
By brookeb
Thought this was going to be a truck book but turns out it is about various things that can dig (a dog digging in dirt, a child digging in sand, people planting flowers, etc.). My 2.5yo still liked it even though it wasn't what we expected.

K-Gr 2—When rain threatens to spoil the long-awaited Witch Parade, Delia changes the raindrops to cats and dogs. At first, her fellow witches are delighted, but then the animals begin causing trouble. Each additional spell causes even more problems. Hats and clogs spark squabbles, and bats and frogs make a mess. Young readers will enjoy the rhyming magic spells and the humorous details in the double-page illustrations. The stormy blues and greens lend a slightly spooky mood to this Halloween tale, but the cheerful, chubby witches and amiable ghosties are friendly rather than frightening. VERDICT A sweet and satisfying Halloween story to share with young audiences.—Rachel Anne Mencke, St. Matthew's Parish School, Pacific Palisades, CA

Rhyming spells are a treat
By Julie Fulton
This is a great little picture book story which would be perfect for Hallowe'en reading, but works any time of the year. Delia the witch tries to help out when it rains on the annual Witch Parade....but things don't always turn out quite as she planned and the poor witches get in quite a mess. I won't spoil the outcome, but will say I loved the ending....just right for children to make up their own stories about what happened next! The illustrations complement the words and there is plenty to look for in each spread. The rhyming spells are a treat...I'd certainly recommend this book to all budding witches out there.

Don't save this one for a rainy day . . .
By Kristin
Rollicking fun! And a clever twist on the childhood favorite "It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring." Would make a great read aloud for story-time for witches of all ages. I can even envision the "make it rain" activity, where children start out by snapping, then clapping and stomping to mimic the sounds of a storm. A real winner in my book, with a most satisfying conclusion.

Perfectly Disastrous – and Totally Funny
By Booklover2
All the witches are looking forward to the big parade, but then storm clouds gather. Delia is determined to save the day, so she waves her magic wand and chants a rhyming spell. Perfect…except it’s not. Get set to laugh out loud at the disasters Delia creates. Rebecca Colby’s humorous picture book is one kids will want to read again and again. And don’t be surprised if they chant their own funny spells.

From Booklist
*Starred Review* After her father has been missing in action for nine years during the Vietnam War, 10-year-old Hà flees with her mother and three older brothers. Traveling first by boat, the family reaches a tent city in Guam, moves on to Florida, and is finally connected with sponsors in Alabama, where Hà finds refuge but also cruel rejection, especially from mean classmates. Based on Lai’s personal experience, this first novel captures a child-refugee’s struggle with rare honesty. Written in accessible, short free-verse poems, Hà’s immediate narrative describes her mistakes—both humorous and heartbreaking—with grammar, customs, and dress (she wears a flannel nightgown to school, for example); and readers will be moved by Hà’s sorrow as they recognize the anguish of being the outcast who spends lunchtime hiding in the bathroom. Eventually, Hà does get back at the sneering kids who bully her at school, and she finds help adjusting to her new life from a kind teacher who lost a son in Vietnam. The elemental details of Hà’s struggle dramatize a foreigner’s experience of alienation. And even as she begins to shape a new life, there is no easy comfort: her father is still gone. Grades 4-8. --Hazel Rochman

From the Back Cover

For all the ten years of her life, Ha has only known Saigon: the thrills of its markets, the joy of its traditions, the warmth of her friends close by, and the beauty of her very own papaya tree. But now the Vietnam War has reached her home. Ha and her family are forced to flee as Saigon falls, and they board a ship headed toward hope.

This is the moving story of one girl's year of change, dreams, grief, and healing as she journeys from one country to another, one life to the next.

Beautiful, sad, poetic
By Madigan McGillicuddy
I love narrative poetry, and this book was no exception. At the height of the Vietnam War, 10 year-old Kim Ha is forced to leave Saigon with her mother and older brothers. Her father has been missing for several years, and the family continually hopes for his return. The decision to leave is heartwrenching, knowing that if they go, there will be no real way for their father to find them again, if indeed, he is still alive. Ha's mother gives her children the option of saving one thing... everything else must be destroyed, so as not to leave any evidence behind for the invading soldiers.

Once aboard the ship, the family suffers from extremely close quarters and lack of food. The boat captain's unlucky snap judgement on the best escape route means that their journey is drawn out much longer than they had anticipated, necessitating rationing. People grow ruthless and hoard what little food they have. The ship is rescued by Americans, and the families make their way to the States. Salvation? Hardly. Ha and her family end up in Alabama in the early-70's, with racial tensions at an all time high. After everything she's been through, Ha must endure appallingly racist bullies at school, as well as condescending teachers, who don't understand that just because she hasn't learned English perfectly yet, that doesn't mean that she isn't a bright and extremely observant girl. Ha is desperately homesick and finds heavily-processed American food disgusting compared to the fresh papayas and traditional Vietnamese fare that she is used to.

At this point, I really began to wish for some sort of break from the unrelenting sadness of the story - whether by comic relief, or a sympathetic character to lighten the tension. I had hoped that Ha's neighbor, Miss Washington would fill the bill, but even though she's kindly and means well, ultimately she comes across as a dotty old lady who doesn't quite get it.

A semi-autobiographical story, this book is simultaneously difficult to read, and very accessible. The four "chapters" it's broken into: Saigon, At Sea, Alabama, and From Now On, neatly break up the action. The emotional turmoil that Ha goes through makes this book quite challenging indeed, but the words flow so smoothly it's hard not to get drawn in to the tale. The writing was wonderfully crafted and made reading about the immigrant experience completely compelling. As powerful, arresting and in some ways just as sad as The Bridge to Terabithia, Inside Out and Back Again could definitely be a Newbery contender.

Lovely & thought-provoking
By L. K. Messner
INSIDE OUT AND BACK AGAIN is a beautiful novel-in-verse about a young girl who flees Vietnam as Saigon is falling and makes a new home with her mother and brothers in Alabama. Based on the author's own experiences as a child immigrant, the poems are spare and lovely, and they manage to capture both the sense of wonder and the feeling of isolation of a newcomer in a world where everything seems different. As a teacher, one thing I found especially interesting and heartbreaking was Ha's feeling of suddenly not being smart any more when she enrolled in her new school in America - such a common experience for gifted kids who encounter a language and culture barrier in a new home.

I really enjoyed this book and think readers in grades 4-7 will love it, too. It'd be great as a classroom read-aloud or for literature circles. Consider recommending it along with CRACKER: THE BEST DOG IN VIETNAM by Cynthia Kadohata and ALL THE BROKEN PIECES, an equally beautiful novel in verse by Ann Burg,as a way to explore Vietnam from different perspectives. It would also be fantastic paired with Katherine Applegate's HOME OF THE BRAVE, which is also an immigrant story in verse, from the point of view of a boy from Africa. Both books are short and poignant, and readers will come away with a much better understanding of what it feels like to land in a strange, new world and try to make that place home.

Inside Out & Back Again
By Heidi Grange
Ha has spent all of her ten years in Saigon (Vietnam). She knows the markets, she does well in school, and she loves the papaya tree that she planted behind her family's house. But the war is creeping ever closer and her mother struggles to provide enough food. As it becomes apparent that Saigon will fall to the Communist North, Ha and her family make a painful choice to flee the country in hopes of finding refuge. When they land in America things seem to be working out, but as Ha struggles to adapt to a new language, a new religion, new climate, and new food, she wonders if it wouldn't have been better to stay in Vietnam. And what about the father she has never met who went missing nine years earlier?

Usually I am not a big fan of novels written in free verse. I like my poetry to be poetry and my stories to be prose. But I have had the privilege of reading this book and several others that have convinced me that done right, free verse can be particularly powerful. This story is based on the author's experiences as a child and maybe that's why they are so realistic. I promise you will not be able to read this book without feeling compassion for Ha and her family. You will cheer for their successes and feel discomfort at the poor treatment they receive from many. The book provides a thought-provoking look at a topic (immigration) that remains controversial still. Highly recommended.

Animals sing for all kinds of reasons and make all kinds of sounds in the process. The spotted owl sings at night, high above the treetops. A honeybee's buzzing is the sound of summer. And the low voices of fin whales broadcast in the blue Pacific Ocean. Why Do I Sing? possesses a beautiful cadence for reading aloud, as it invites us to consider all of the voices in nature.

Review
Humans aren’t the only creatures with the urge to sing. Blomgren describes the wild songs of marmots, fin whales, meadowlarks, loons and others, imagining what might compel them. Of the starfish, she writes delicately: “They just might be singing a song we can’t know. / We don’t see or hear the world the same way / As so many living things near us each day.” Gabriel’s big, rough-textured watercolors give a good sense of the particular beauty of the region.
The New York Times

This tender pair [with Where Do I Sleep?] should make lovely bedtime additions. Gentle verses describe the sleeping and singing habits of various animals. Each of the illustrations contains the name of the animal in question. Soft and sweet yet beautifully textured, the images are lovely and will have readers poring over them.
School Library Journal

Gabriel’s handsome, atmospheric watercolor paintings on textured paper capture scenic panoramas or zoom in to render animals larger than life, from honeybee to meadowlark.
Kirkus Reviews

Beautiful and Just a Little Different!
By NW Rain Gal
Why Do I Sing is a sweet, poetic story told in verse. What I love about the written portion is the mentioning of rather unique animals from the Pacific Northwest, such as the Spotted Owl. The verses are lovely and thoughtful.

The illustrations look like beautifully rendered watercolors done on watercolor paper. Each one is very detailed, and really bring the animals to life. I like the colors, textures, and the way the scenes are complete, not just the animal by itself on a white background. The Artist must really love animals ;)!

I plan to buy another copy to send to my sister's kids. This copy was for me!

Perfect for young children!
By Wendy S.
Jennifer Blomgren writes beautifully for small children about the songs that animals sing. From the call of the wolf to thoughts about the secret voices of starfish, she helps us see the wonder of the natural world. This is another book that is close in style to her other titles, Where Do I Sleep?, and Where Would I Be in an Evergreen Tree? They are all set in the Pacific Northwest, but speak to children everywhere. Ms. Blomgren's books are sweet and gentle. They are great for a bedtime story.

In his surge of excitement to give his friends their new gifts, Cat almost forgets to get himself a fish! When Cat returns home and presents his friends with their new things they are all very happy, which for Cat, is the greatest happiness of all.

Review
Happy Cat and his neighbors return for another early reader (Happy Cat, 2013). "Cat liked fish." The smiling kitty descends from his attic apartment past the apartments of artist Parrot and musician Elephant, past reading Dog and gardening Rabbit and hungry Mouse. "Cat went out." He sees a trumpet in a window and goes in the shop. He sees books out in front of a store and goes in there too. He goes in and out of several more stores populated by grinning animals of all types across a quaint town in autumn, and he returns with quite a few purchases. Turns out, he has purchased something for each of his neighbors (readers glean this from the illustrations), and all are happy including Cat, of course. Henry returns to the I Like to Read series with his smiling orange tabby. In 20 words and with many visual cues in the bright and friendly watercolor illustrations, he tells a simple shopping story. Repetition of the one- and (extremely few) two-syllable words will build confidence in readers just starting out, and the heavy-outlined, full-bleed illustrations offer myriad details to catch the eye and extend the story. Another ideal story for newly hatched readers. (Early reader. 3-5) --Kirkus Reviews

This delightful book is a wonderful follow-up to Happy Cat
By Grannie Annie
This delightful book is a wonderful follow-up to Happy Cat. The illustrations are extraordinary, so colorful and detailed. Each time my grandchildren and I look at the book, more little details are discovered. My 6-year-old granddaughter was able to read the book without assistance, which made her very proud and increased her confidence. Now she reads it to her 2-year-old brother, while he shouts out the names of all the colorful animals - cow! duck! bird! dog! mouse! Steve Henry is such a talented artist, and his drawings really enhance the story of a cat who wanted to get gifts for all his friends....and a nice fish for himself, too. I am ordering a bunch for all my friends who have little people in their lives. It is perfect for those who cannot read yet and perfect for those who have just learned to read. And, this not-so-old Grannie thinks it's perfect for her, too!

A lot of interest for beginning readers
By Jake Stanley
There's a lot to see and talk about in this ultra-easy book for the youngest beginning reader. With about three words on every page, Steve Henry tells a story children will enjoy. Cat goes into various stores--a bookstore, a music store, an art store, and flower shop--and makes a purchase that is perfect for one of the dwellers in his apartment house (seen in a cutaway that's shows the occupants engaged in their favorite activities). Ebullient city scenes and Cat's happiness when he gives his gifts make this cheerful book a charmer.

An I Like to Read book whose illustrations will surprise readers every time. This book is perfect for beginning readers (PreK-K). The simple text and colorful illustrations will help build confidence while reading a “real” book. Readers will find themselves making predictions about which friend cat is buying each item for. I can’t wait to share this book with the kindergarten teachers at my school.

Also available in English, The Different Dragon:
This bedtime story about bedtime stories shows how a lively, curious boy helps one of his moms create a magical tale. Together they weave a nighttime adventure that lands young Noah and his singing cat Diva deep in dragon territory. Join them as they make an unexpected discovery and help a new friend find his way.

Author's Note:
When 7th grader Alba Clark expressed an interest in translation, her Spanish teacher Pamela Torres handed her a copy of The Different Dragon. This passionate teacher and her motivated student worked closely together, delving into the essence of language and searching for words to honor the intention of the original story. Because of their efforts Two Lives Publishing is proud to bring you El dragón diferente.

I wrote The Different Dragon more than ten years ago, when I longed to read my children bedtime stories that mirrored the reality of our playful, average two-mom family. At the time I was also beginning my work as a PreK-12 consultant, helping schools address issues of gender and sexuality. Early Elementary teachers use The Different Dragon to teach students about the joy of telling stories, the value of being true to oneself, and the problem with stereotypes--- even of dragons. The Gay Lesbian Straight Educators Network (GLSEN) created a PreK-3rd grade lesson featuring Dragon that explores different kinds of families. [You can find a copy of “Respecting Families Nurtures Everyone!” in the back of this book.]

Born in Spain, Alba is keenly aware of the audience for this book. She understands the transformative power of literature and believes “the importance of a translated children’s story like The Different Dragon is immense.” I share her hope that El dragón diferente "will bring messages of gay rights and the new roles of children to a very eager Spain.” This Spanish version will allow families and students in classrooms everywhere to read this inclusive, whimsical tale.

Whether you are a parent, teacher, young reader or aspiring translator, enjoy!

Instead, Meda’s forced to try to keep them all alive until the dust settles. As the Crusaders take more and more drastic measures, the tables turn and Meda suddenly finds herself in the role of voice of sanity. No one is more horrified than she is. Can’t a monster ever catch a break?

About the Author
Eliza Crewe always thought she’d be a lawyer, and even went so far as to complete law school. But as they say, you are what you eat, and considering the number of books Eliza has devoured since childhood, it was inevitable she’d end up in the literary world. She abandoned the lawyer-plan to instead become a librarian and now a writer. While she’s been filling notebooks with random scenes for years, Eliza didn’t seriously commit to writing an entire novel until the spring of 2011, when she and her husband bought a house. With that house came a half-hour commute, during which Eliza decided she needed something to think about other than her road-rage. Is it any surprise she wrote a book about a blood-thirsty, people-eating monster? Eliza has lived in Illinois, Edinburgh, and Las Vegas, and now lives in North Carolina with her husband, daughter, hens, an angry, talking, stuffed dwarf giraffe, and a sweet, mute, pantomiming bear. She likes to partially-complete craft projects, free-range her hens, and take long walks. Cracked is her first novel. She is represented by Victoria Marini of Gelfman Schneider Literary Agents, Inc.

If you haven't read this series, I can't urge you enough to give it a try.
By Melanie Parker
Meda is the character that young adults need to read about. This series is, hands down, the best new YA series I've read. The only comparable series is Angelfall, and that ending fell flat, whereas this ending was strong and wonderfully written.

I was thrown back into the world of Crusaders and Demons, and it felt like I never left. Every character is complex and shows growth. Meda is the pinnacle of what young girls should strive to be. Yeah, she's a little selfish, but in this world you have to be. And above all else she is master at self preservation in a world where everyone is dying. She's witty, she never gives up, she shows what friendship really is, and she's strong. She's strong for her friends, for the world, and for herself. She never falters. She doesn't get all gooey because of boys. She never gives up. She is an absolute pleasure to read about, and I wish more characters could be like her.

Chi continues to be the pillar of all that is good in this series. You would think that would get boring, but it doesn't. It just amazes you how in the face of all this darkness, Chi will always do the right thing. I know most humans have much more of an internal struggle, but Chi is that sure of himself and his God and it's beautiful.

Jo, oh Jo. Jo finally snaps, but it was needed for Meda to grow up even more. Jo really represents human struggle to do the right thing and the feeling of not being properly compensated. Jo is fed up in this book, and does some very unlike Jo things, which was an amazing character arc for her. Her and Meda's friendship is so pure and beautiful and really uncontested in the book genre they are in. I'm a sucker for anything that shows unconditional love, and it's the foundation of their friendship, which everything else grows from.

I'm hesitant to say this, but it truly is how I feel; this series is the greatest story about friendship since Harry Potter.

Then there is Armand, who I happen to love. The reason I'm giving this book four stars and not 5 is because I was unhappy with Armand's ending. This book is such a tease with any romance, but you never really get any and it left me feeling a little sad. When Jo showed Armand's true form I broke. I broke into a million tiny pieces and couldn't help but cry the rest of the chapter for him. Eliza Crewe did such an amazing job and forcing us to show empathy and really making us fear Hell/The Pitt, but to bring children into it... My heart couldn't take it. I wanted Armand's happy ending (preferably with Meda), but I never got it. And in my eyes, he deserved it. I don't even think the reasoning was strong enough, because I feel like he had proved himself to wanting to be good and changed for unselfish reasons.

I do suppose this leaves her with the option to continue writing this series. Which I hope she does, because YA needs more books like this. It needs more characters like Meda. And honestly, I need more of this world.

If you haven't read this series, I can't urge you enough to give it a try.

Meda and Jo Take Over Hell
By Robin Snyder
******* 4.5 Girl Power Stars *********

You’ve read how many YA series where girl has a best friend but then meets a boy and everything becomes about him? The heroine becomes stupid over him and waves bye-bye to the best friend who is now delegated to the back seat…Meda is not that girl. Meda is the girl who might have the boy but will still go into hell for her BFF, literally. Don’t get me wrong Meda can still do romance…well sort of but it will never be roses and candy. Her idea of romance is not killing you, what more do you want she is half demon.

***“Hey, I can do romance,” I protest, forcing levity into my voice. “I didn’t feed you to the dragon when I had the chance. That’s romantic.”
“You’re right, I’m sorry. You have the soul of a poet.”***

Crossed is my favorite book of this series for a few reasons. It actually has the best plotting and pacing out of all the books of the series. Not a lot of time is spent with the actual crusaders and I like it best when it is just the small group running around and getting into trouble and there is plenty of that. Every character gets their chance to shine and become a little more than they were before. Even Chi who was the ultimate paper cut out of the good guy shows he is deeper than we initially realized.

***That Chi’s freeing of the soul was a deliberate attempt to protect it from Jo’s cruelty and not just his happy-go-lucky naivety is again the wind fluttering the curious curtain over Chi’s depths. He has seen something in Jo and now we all see something in him.
Jo blinks, as if someone unexpectedly turned on a light, then shakes her head. “You can’t do the right thing here, Chi. It’s not . . . it doesn’t belong.”
His voice gentles, the previous bite all but forgotten. “You can do the right thing everywhere, Jo. That’s why it’s the right thing.”***

But you want to know who steals the freaking show is Jo. You thought I’d say Meda right? I thought I was going to love Meda the most too but surprise, surprise Jo stepped up to bat and hit one out of the ball park. I LOVE HER in this. Because what happens when Jo isn’t tethered by everything the Crusaders taught her? What happens when she finds out what it is like on the other side and how good it can feel to play for the other team? What happens when she knows-it-all??? I’ll tell you what happens… Meda becomes the voice of reason and we are all in trouble when she is our conscience. Need I remind you that she is part monster and hunts killers for fun and food.

***I love screams. All screams. Bloodcurdling, terrified screams. Squealing, pained screams. Harsh, moaning screams ripped from raw throats that thought they could scream no more. The trailing scream that crumbles into a death rattle. I love the way they ring in my ears, the way they vibrate in the points of my teeth. The way the Hunger roars in harmony. If I were a musician, my instrument would be the highest pitches of the human voice box. I’d line up my victims and pluck their vocal cords like a street musician stroking the lip of a dozen water glasses.***

It is a scary day when she is the one that has the lead on the moral compass. Still I loved the Bad Jo and Trying To Be Good Meda so much together. They have wonderful banter and the dark humor in the book is so wonderful I laughed a lot throughout.

Then there is The French Guy…aka Armand. I thought I was going to have to wait forever for him to come into the story again but I was so happily surprised when that wasn’t the case. When he appeared pretty early in and he might love Meda in his demon-hearted way but he also has an agenda of his own.

***“Because I need the Crusaders to do something for me.”
“You need them.”
“Where else am I going to find an army of heroic self-sacrificing idiots?”
Can’t disagree with that one. “And you think they’re going to help you?”
His eyes open and he smiles faintly. “Not on purpose. Obviously.”***

Demon love is so cute…probably cuter than crusader love. And while yes there are two definite couples in this it is far from having an overabundance of lovey dovey moments. We don’t have time for that since we are marching into hell to try and save the world.

I enjoyed every twist in this tale and dynamic of the team. I especially enjoyed the trek into hell, I’m a sucker for how different authors envision hell and project it for the reader. Crewe did a really good job with showing how she thought this world’s version of hell would look and behave.

Not everything is perfect in the story since this has been a tale of Heaven vs Hell I thought there might be a little bit more closure to it. I really enjoyed the revelations (get it revelations in the bible) that came out at the end about the war and how the tides had turned so much over the years but I wanted just a little bit more. It seems that we leave our group with a lot of work still left to do. I’m not saying that is a bad thing I’m just one of those readers that likes a really wrapped up epilogue in a 3rd book of the series.

This entire series is one of my favorite in YA since it doesn’t fall into a lot of the trope pitfalls of the others in the genre and it is different.

p.s. – Unwind by Neal Shusterman still holds the #1 spot in my YA series favorites…but this is solidly in my top 5 YA series currently.

Perfect Ending To a Great Series!
By Talvi
With this third and final book in the series, Crewe manages to not only continually amaze and amuse with the snarky bon mots but also create a definitive story arc complete with emotional character growth. What we don't have is a series that peters out at the end and shuffles off with a whimper; rather, we have a tour de force with all the impetus, action, and pathos from the first two books cleverly intact. And through it all, nearly every YA cliche is thrown unceremoniously out the window in clear defiance of expectations. It's all so wonderfully subversive and inventive. Definitely one of my favorite reads ever.

Story: The Crusaders are losing. Badly. Meda wants to jump ship but darn it if those crusader values keep getting in the way. When all hope is nearly lost, sacrifices will be made, tables turned, and a trip to the very depth of hell may just be in order for our Scooby gang.

The story structure of the first two books is intact here: lots of great verbal quips, smaller action, and emotional bonding. Then by the middle the twists come and secrets will out. Then a great climax at the end. Readers may think they know all there is about Meda, Jo, Chi, and Armand - but life is never cut and dry for our anti-heroes.

Author Crewe resists the temptation to turn Meda good (or Jo bad!) nor does Anton turn into a prince charming. Chi is still dense but fiercely loyal - but this really is the girls' story. The sacrifices and betrayals make sense, Meda doesn't rush headlong into danger stupidly, and all the silly YA-heroine cliches never materialize. The entire Soul eater series is really an antidote pill to the rash of vapid YA titles proliferating these days, featuring 'spirited by illogical' heroines and their bland, oh-so-perfect prince charming heroes. You won't find any of that in here and Meda is still deliciously conflicted. But at the same time, the core of the book is about emotion - friendship, loyalty, and even love. You can laugh even while your heart breaks for the characters.

So yes, I heartily recommend this final in the series for those who have read the first two books. For those who haven't, you're missing out on one heck of a fun read. Just make sure there are no sleeping animals (or spouses) near you as you begin this book (or the series). I had a hard time keeping from laughing out loud (and then not crying) throughout. Kudos to Crewe to finding such a great balance between humor and pathos, snark and heart.

Issie has been set the ulimate challange. A fat lazy pony whose entire life is devoted to sleeping, lying down, snoring. Fortune is the ultimate star of this book to which many horse girls can relate to! (Every horse person has known a pony just like this one! In my case I owned one.) Natasha and her father are back with a need for domination and the drama surrounding this will keep you in your seats! This series is perfect for any horse mad person. Factual.
By ScotFlower
Teaches the basics of earth science from volcanoes to earthquakes and more. It didn't overly thrill me or overly excite me - but it was very educational. I really did not like though that some photos were placed over the crack between pages - especially when what the text was referring to like the shape of the volcanoes peak but you could not see it because it was lost in the crease. If they fixed that problem, the book would have been 4 stars.

Great info!
By Hello Happy
This well-bound book series contains full-page photos, brief descriptions, and fun fact bullet points, scattered around each two-page spread, to explain to children about the power (and tragedy) of these hard to understand aspects of life on Earth. I went through some earthquakes when I was a child, and learned about tragic events unfolding elsewhere, and found them confusing. This book helps to explain to children why, how, and the history of such things, which should help eliminate some confusion, and hopefully, some fear on the subject.
