A snow day! Share the excitement of waking up and discovering that the ground is covered with snow. Even better, we are snowed in and Dad is home instead of at work! To celebrate, Dad and I are going sledding. The sound of the sled going down the hill at a nearby park (WHOOSH!) guides the tale through the fun and bonding between the child and her dad. His love for her is demonstrated in the smallest ways - in gestures she may not understand now, but will impact her later. In dialogue with both her dad and mom, the child reveals that time with them is indeed the most important thing to her - any day. This book is written from the first person point of view, so that the listener is able to visualize themselves in the role of the child.

About the Author
Including essays, poetry, short stories and young adult fiction, Joan Leotta is a versatile and award-winning author and journalist. "WHOOSH!" is her debut children's picture book. She crafted this tale from her own memories of sledding in a local Pittsburgh park with her hard working dad on the few days he was home from work (often due to snow!) Leotta has been playing with words on paper and on stage from the first time she could hold a pen and climb onto a stage. Her motto is "encouraging others through pen and performance." She gathers inspiration for writing and performing from everyday incidents and objects. She has been a story performer, mostly for children, for more than thirty years. She was a Tupelo 30/30 poet in February of 2015. Joan also performs historic character and folklore shows. Leotta now lives, and spends a lot of time walking the beach, with her husband Joe.
Rebecca Michael Zeissler has been an illustrator working primarily with pen and ink for more than 25 years. She has expanded her materials to include watercolor washes, oils and colored pencil. Michael Zeissler's work has been widely published in newspapers and magazines, with the primary focus being children's publications, such as "Chicago Parent Magazine," for which her artwork won the Best Cover Illustration award from Parenting Publications of America. After a lengthy stint as a software specialist and database administrator in corporate America, Michael Zeissler is once again fully committed to her artwork, creating twelfth-scale miniature paintings and illustrating children's books. Michael Zeissler studied art and design at Eastern Illinois University.

A Book About Snow That Creates a Warm, Fuzzy Feeling!
By Deborah Bence Boerema
This story is told from the point of view of a little girl who awakes to a world covered in white. She is delighted to discover that her father is home on a weekday because the heavy snowfall has the whole city closed down. The little girl doesn’t have much difficulty talking her father into taking her sledding. They spend the morning at the park, climbing the hill and whooshing down. Father and daughter enjoy having fun in the snow. But more importantly, they clearly enjoy spending some unexpected time together.
At 62 pages, this book is nearly twice as long as most picture books. However, the simple language makes it appropriate for early readers. They will like the sensory descriptions and frigid illustrations, which create the chill and excitement of sledding down a hill. Adults reading with them will appreciate the tender example of the special relationship that exists between fathers and daughters. This story serves as a reminder to never pass up an opportunity to make memories.

My 3yo daughter loves this book! I read it to her for the first time last night and as soon as I was done she said "again, Mommy?" She even had me read the bios at the end! I am sure this book will be a favorite in our home for years to come!
