From School Library Journal
Baby-Toddler—A baby is crying in the middle of the night. Her parents, grandparents, sister, brother, and neighbors do everything they can think of to make her stop. Roy, the dog, knows the answer all along, but no one is paying attention, and his repeated barks only add to the din. The humorous cumulative text invites participation, as each person's attempt ends with the refrain "But the more they tried, the more that baby cried…W-A-A-A-A!" Yelchin's mixed-media illustrations are fun and full of life. The characters have the look of watercolor cutouts, arranged on top of vibrantly colored, swirling, painted backgrounds. What the baby wants is her toy lamb, a solution that children will predict from the beginning of the story. Child readers will love being in on the joke, identifying with Roy and an equally perplexed mouse as they try to help the clueless humans. Beautifully composed, each page propels the story to a climactic spread filled with hula hooping, magic tricks, juggling, soap bubbles, and music! With everyone else busy, Roy is finally able to deliver the toy to the baby, who smiles and falls asleep, at last. VERDICT The only tears shed at bedtime will be ones of laughter when families are reading this delightful book.—Lucinda Snyder Whitehurst, St. Christopher's School, Richmond, VA

Review

“The humorous cumulative text invites participation . . . Yelchin's mixed-media illustrations are fun and full of life. . . . Beautifully composed, each page propels the story to a climactic spread filled with hula hooping, magic tricks, juggling, soap bubbles, and music!” ―School Library Journal

“The amusing illustrations of popular animals and the jaunty rhythm and rhyme will make this a favorite.” ―Kirkus Reviews on Who Ate All the Cookie Dough?

“Sometimes the full savor of a book only comes through silent absorption. . . . Children old enough to read will get the full force of the harmonious combination of Lee Wardlaw's wry verse and Eugene Yelchin's witty illustration.” ―The Wall Street Journal on Won Ton

Goodreads reviews are significantly lower....
By Dione Basseri
Eh. I may have just had too-high of hopes for this book, being a big-dog owner waiting on their first child. But this was just...pretty boring. The idea of a family being unable to understand why a child is crying, while the dog is completely aware, seems cute enough. But the text just didn't seem to flow all that well. I was more impratient for them to pay attention to the dog than amused at the misunderstanding.

Perhaps others will enjoy this more, but I do see that the Goodreads reviews are averaging about 3-stars, as well. Which means a significant number of people liked this even less.

Try it from your library before a purchase. But for me, I'll be keeping an eye out for other books about dogs and babies. The one I want has to be out there....

Love. Love. Love

What a fun and funny book! Very rhythmic and you can use some great voices to exaggerate the written sounds. I can't wait to read this to my grandchild.
