Lauren is an experienced translator and private Spanish teacher with an M.A. in Spanish. She was motivated by her students and inspired by her daughter to write a children's book that is fun, educational and encourages families to sit down with the little ones to talk about their ancestry.

Great book for introducing genealogy to young children

Reading this book with your young child presents a great opportunity to talk about your extended family and to introduce the concept of generations. It is a sweet book with cute illustrations; short enough for a toddler to remain interested to the end, where there is a page with an empty family tree waiting to be completed. This is a great way to continue the conversation about your own family history, while doing a fun, creative project.
I particularly love the fact that this book also comes in a Spanish version and various bilingual versions.

As I have a large family that comes from a culture that emphasizes family above anything else this book was the perfect introduction to genealogy for the little ones. With close to 30 members from 5 different families (and more on the way!) keeping track of relatives and lineage has become no easy task for the kids. But the book helps immensely through a simple story that provides a solid concept of family trees as well as the option of drawing your own in the back, an activity the children loved. I even got the Spanish version to introduce my nieces and nephews to a new language!

Fantastic Children's book!!

I purchased 'Do Families Grow on Trees' for my godson and he loves it when I read it to him. The bright pictures excite him and its interactive as well because we talk about our family while we are reading it. It is such a postive book and helps kids to think and the fact that its all about family makes it so special. I full recommend and support this book for all children. Its become part of our weekly reading routine. Perfect for a Christmas or Birthday purchase!!
